Silent echoes of salient sores, 2024

Gibraltar Point Lighthouse, Toronto Island

At the historic Gibraltar Point Lighthouse, this durational performance explores grief as both personal burden and collective ceremony. Through the gradual melting of a beetroot-infused ice block against the performer's body, the work makes visible the slow transformation of loss. As crimson-tinged water marks both flesh and site, the piece creates a temporal map of mourning. The performance culminates in a communal ritual where participants release leaf lanterns containing offerings into the lake—a gesture that transforms private grief into shared remembrance. This act of feeding ancestral waters speaks to how memory, like water, flows between bodies, generations, and histories.
