The I in Identity Starts with U, 2025

The performance is born from the raw, often disorienting experience of immigration. After moving from India to Tkaronto, I found myself in a constant state of flux, my sense of self shifting like sand beneath my feet. Each day, I put on different masks, trying to fit into a world that feels foreign. In this daily shuffle, I've watched pieces of my cultural identity slip away, leaving me grasping for a sense of belonging in a place where I feel like an outsider.
At its core, this piece explores relationality—how we exist in relation to one another and how these relationships shape our identities. The performative videos manipulate symbols of identity, illustrating how our self-image is refracted through the eyes of others. My movements embody the fluid transitions between different versions of myself.
